The Cleveland Browns sent a shock wave through the National Football League world on Thursday afternoon when they came out of nowhere and traded for Houston Texans $72 million quarterback Brock Osweiler.

With almost $102 million in salary-cap space to start the day, the Browns were in a position to take on Osweiler's contract and get another high draft pick.

Upon breaking the trade, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Browns were not interested in keeping Osweiler. It's a shrewd trade for a Browns team that is rebuilding and has more cap space than it can realistically use this offseason.

The move saves Houston $16 million in cash and $10 million against the salary cap this season, giving them more cap space to pursue Tony Romo.

Although Osweiler signed a $72 million contract that would keep him in Houston for four years, after just one season he was sent to Cleveland.

Osweiler joined the Texans ahead of last season but was not a huge success, although Houston did reach the play-offs and win a Wild Card game before losing to eventual champions New England. He tallied 15 passing touchdowns with a 59.0 completion percentage, while tossing 197.1 yards per game.

Now simply, if the Browns decide to release Brock, you have to imagine that the Jets would kick those tires, see what he's looking for, see if they can get him on a cheap prove it deal, etc etc.

The Cleveland Browns released quarterback Robert Griffin III after one injury-marred season, the team announced Friday.

The Browns drafted Kessler in the third round a year ago.

Here's what we know: The Browns are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback. They had to get creative to clear him and his contract off the roster and upgrade the quarterback position, so they made the unusual trade with the Browns.

Remember when he was good that one year?

But he might not be the only quarterback headed out the door: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted that the Browns are shopping Brock Osweiler, whom they acquired only a day ago from the Texans.

The main target for them will be the unsettled Tony Romo, who they wanted for a long time.
