'Saturday Night Live' segment 'Weekend Update' is getting its own show

The series will launch August 10, and air at 9 p.m.

Saturday Night Live's popular "Weekend Update" segment is getting its own primetime slot beginning on August 10, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT. Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update received a four episode order from NBC and will star Colin Jost and Michael Che as anchors.

Ahead of the 2008 election between Barack Obama and John McCain, a "Weekend Update" ran on Thursday nights featuring hosts Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler. They went live about an hour following Vice-Presidential nominee Mike Pence's address to the convention and the country.

Current "Weekend Update" hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che will keep their posts for the series, although other "SNL" cast members will reportedly make appearances. There's also been a plethora of news events to address during "Weekend Update" throughout his presidency.

Versus year-ago averages, "SNL" is up +21% in adult 18-49 rating (3.57 vs. 2.94) and up 2.2 million persons or +26% in total viewers with 11.022 million. "Saturday Night Live" was inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame by the National Association of Broadcasters".
