Amazon Alexa Coming to iOS Amazon Shopping App

This isn't the first time that we're seeing Alexa show up in non-Amazon devices.

Amazon's shopping app has always supported voice search, but today's update allows iPhone owners to tap into Alexa's skills-of which there are thousands. This new announcement from Amazon is great if you have the iOS app.

Although iPhones are already equipped with the digital assistant Siri, users have complained the Apple technology has a hard time understanding requests - particularly when made by someone with an accent - and doesn't necessarily have the most up-to-date information.

Inside of the Amazon app for iOS, you will see a microphone icon near the top of the screen.

Hey Siri, can you make room for Alexa on the iPhone?

The off-spinner's last Test appearance was also against New Zealand in August 2016, after which he was dropped for Keshav Maharaj.

You could use your voice to search the Amazon app before - but you didn't have access to Alexa itself. So, it looks like those who want a standalone Alexa experience will still have to shell out for an Echo device. You're not limited to shopping-related questions either-you can use Alexa in the Shopping app as you would in your home if you have an Alexa-enabled device.

Alexa is coming to Siri's home turf.

And, there are fewer and fewer things Alexa can't do. And since this gesture isn't programmable, it'll hard to tell how many people are actually gonna use Alexa over Apple's own voice bot. You also need to keep the main Alexa app installed in order to manage Alexa on all your devices. Among other partnerships, Amazon recently teamed up with Dish Network Corp., which is pairing its Hopper DVR with Echo and Amazon's smaller Dot smart speaker. If you don't have it already, you can download the Amazon app from the App Store here.

Alexa support for iOS rolls out today and is expected to hit all users in the U.S. by the end of the week. You will find that within the next several days, Alexa will become integrated with the Amazon Shopping App.
