Washington blamed the gas attack on Syrian government forces.

"Tonight I ordered a targeted military attack on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched".

"The Syrian army does not have any chemical weapon stockpiles", added Peskov.

"What is urgent now is to prevent the situation from deteriorating and uphold the hard-won political process to settle the Syrian issue", she said, without directly mentioning USA missile strikes in response to the attack.

In a separate report on the strikes, SANA claimed that the US -led coalition had committed "dozens of massacres against the Syrians" which had left "dozens of civilians dead or injured". The United States holds this month's presidency of the Security Council.

Kalin said: "The destruction of the Sharyat airbase marks an important step to ensure that chemical and conventional attacks against the civilian population do not go unpunished".

"No child of God should ever suffer such horror", Mr. Trump said when announcing the missile strike Thursday night.

Russia's military on Friday said a United States strike on a regime air base in Syria was ineffective but announced Syrian air defences would be strengthened to shield the country's key infrastructure.

Title race just got interesting again, admits Chelsea boss Conte

In a recent press conference, Trump said, "Using a deadly nerve agent, al-Assad choked out the lives of hopeless men, women and children".

The motivation for Trump's firing 59 cruise missiles at al-Shayrat came from a chemical weapons attack on Syrian civilians Tuesday, allegedly ordered by Assad, which was launched from the targeted Syrian airfield, according to the USA government.

The Foreign Ministry called on Russian Federation and the U.S.to take steps in accordance with global law to help reach a final and inclusive solution to the Syrian crisis, as they both have the needed potential to help end the Syrian war. The Syrian government strongly denies responsibility and says it does not use chemical weapons.

"Indiscriminate chemical weapons attacks on civilians can never be tolerated and must have consequences".

Instead, Obama opted for a plan backed by Russian Federation that was supposed to eliminate Syria's stockpile of chemical weapons.

He noted that the US -led anti-Daesh coalition was informed of USA missile strike in Syria, while he highlighted that a transitional government without Assad must be established in Syria.

She said: "Assad had an air force, and that air force is the cause of most of the civilian deaths, as we have seen over the years and as we saw again in the last few days".
