Sergio Garcia wins the Masters, ends drought at the majors

"It's been such a long time coming", Garcia said after the win.

"We wanted to shoot four under and thought if we did the lead would move to six or seven and I'd creep on it", said the 2015 champion, who is bidding to become the youngest two-time Masters victor. I'm looking forward to being in a good position so it's going to be a good time. "Everyone has a story line".

Spieth desperately wants to put the horrors of last year's Masters Sunday behind him, or at least the horrors of having to answer questions about it. Five-under won the green jacket previous year.

"We know pins we can get at", Fowler said.

"Got to go out there and believe in myself again as much as I've been doing, be patient and don't freak out even if I do something wrong", Garcia said. But McIlroy, seeking the career grand slam, has a penchant for going low late at Augusta National, shooting in the 60s in three of his last four final rounds at the Masters.

But neither had the round they envisioned, with Spieth carding a 3-over 75 and Fowler closing with 4-over 76. He picked up two more on the par 5s and finished with birdie putts of 20 feet and 12 feet on the last two holes for a 5-under 67. He said when he hit crisp, high arcing shots often they landed a yard or two into the rough, making it hard to navigate the subsequent approach. "It's fun when playing with one of your good buddies".

But it was the 11th hole where he three-putted from 5 feet, and a double bogey removed him from the list of viable contenders.

Gas prices expected to rise, but remain under $3 mark
Roseville, CA- Roseville motorists aren't alone as seasonal pressure begins kicking gas prices higher around the country. This compares with the national average that has increased 5.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.39 per gallon.

The day started with Hoffman, Garcia, Fowler and Belgian Thomas Pieters tied for first at 4 under.

KEY STATISTIC: This is the fourth time Garcia has played in the final group at a major, and the first since the 2007 British Open at Carnoustie.

"Just a bit weird, " Spieth said. It's play aggressive or go home. "I felt the calmest I've ever felt on a major Sunday today". It hasn't done me much good yet!

The Englishman was grinding away in calm conditions at Augusta on Saturday, struggling to find the rewards to move him into contention at the year's first major. Garcia stretched the margin to two strokes with another birdie at the third, driving the ball just short to the green, pulling off a delicate chip and knocking in an 8-footer. "At the end of the day, that's part of the game".

That included Charley Hoffman, who held the lead after the first and second round.

It was mission accomplished for Adam Scott on Saturday as the Australian put on a clinical display of precise ball-striking at the U.S Masters to sneak within striking distance of a second Green Jacket with a second successive three-under 69. "I'm two back, I've been playing good golf and I'm really happy with where I'm at". "Not with regards to the actual shots itself into the greens, but more so once you get on the greens they're starting to become a lot firmer and faster and you have to have really, really nice touch because pin locations are tough".
