North Korea prepares 'pre-emptive strike' in wake of United States 'recklessness'

That raised questions about US President Donald Trump's plans for North Korea, which has conducted several missiles and nuclear tests in defiance of United Nations and unilateral sanctions. Military analysts say the missiles could one day be capable of hitting targets as far away as the continental United States, although the North has yet to flight test them.

Choe, who is believed to be the second-most powerful official in North Korea, further stated that the new U.S. government under Donald Trump was "creating a war situation" on the Korean Peninsula by dispatching strategic military assets to the region.

What does this all mean for a region that is already on edge?

"North Korea made sure that the world saw that they are working on ICBMs and what we saw at the military parade was a prototype ICBM that will become the real deal after the necessary tests in the future", Cheong Seong-Chang, a senior fellow at The Sejong Institute in South Korea, told NBC News.

North Korea's weapons of war rolled through Pyongyang streets on Saturday, as the regime flaunted its intercontinental ballistic missiles, vowing "nuclear justice" in response to any atomic attack.

In a video posted on Facebook from one of the buses departing Madaya, a man identified as Hossam said: "We were forced to leave". Syrian state TV blamed the rebels for obstructing the deal, causing thousands of evacuees to be stuck in bus depots overnight.

US retaliatory strikes against Syria over a chemical weapons attack on civilians, coupled with Trump dispatching what he called an "armada" of ships to the region in a show of force, touched off fears in South Korea that the United States was preparing for military action against the North.

None of the North's five previous nuclear tests has taken place in the month of April.

China - the North's sole major ally and economic lifeline - on Friday warned that war over North Korea could break out "at any moment".

DPRK stands for the official name of North Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

"Our toughest counteraction against the U.S. and its vassal forces will be taken in such a merciless manner as not to allow the aggressors to survive", it added.

The story was picked up by American news giant Bloomberg who ran it with the headline "North Korea Fires Projectile Media, Says Xinhua".

He was the grandfather of the current leader, Kim Jong Un. The military spectacle was organised amid rising tensions between Pyongyang and Washington.

Mr Bandow said America would have to make compromises with China in order to diffuse the situation with North Korea.
