The 15-year-old giraffe delivered her calf shortly before 10am EST in an enclosed pen at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, a rural village about 130 miles north-west of New York City.

People have been glued to the live feed from Animal Adventure Park for weeks, waiting for this moment.

Pretty efficiently, apparently: Despite the fact that her calf weighed something on the order of 150 pounds, and stood 6 foot tall at birth, April's delivery was a textbook giraffe calving affair.

Zoo officials later announced on their Twitter page that the newborn giraffe was male and posted a photo of the still-unnamed calf and its mother with the message: "All is well".

The zoo, reportedly, doesn't anticipate that the giraffe cam will stay up permanently, the Inquisitr reported earlier. A temporary web page has been set up where the public can submit their votes and help name April the giraffe's new baby giraffe. It is now closed and will open to the public in mid-May.

His name is Oliver and he's not so much involved, so says the park. The park is located at Harpursville, New York. Both mama and baby are healthy, Patch added.

Animal Adventure Park, where April lives, later revealed on Instagram the baby giraffe is a boy. The calf was walking and nursing not long after its birth. The calf will then move on to another zoo. The park explains that it cannot retain baby calves born in the zoo, because "it would lead to incestuous mating and undermine the genetics of the program and species".
