The Senate confirmed Secretary Perdue as agriculture secretary today after President Trump nominated him in January. "(The department) is so broad, so vast, so deep and so meaningful to so many people.

A coalition of environmental groups that includes Food & Water Watch and the Center for Biological Diversity in an email called Perdue's committee hearing and vote "disappointing". "We get to participate in that ... and that's an awesome responsibility". Many local farmers say they are positive about how global trade could look in the future.

"When any one of our major importers is saying, 'We're not going with the United States, we're going to go with somebody else, ' that should send shockwaves through the system and should make us pay attention", Bennett said. Although we have some differences on policy, we share a commitment to support American agriculture and strengthen our small towns and rural communities.

President Trump will turn to one of his favorite executive tools - the 180-day report - to look for ways to boost rural America, signing an executive order Tuesday for his newly confirmed secretary of Agriculture. "The USDA has played an integral role in this success and we are excited to see Secretary Perdue's plans to continue leading the way in protecting the economic wellbeing of America's farmers, while giving consumers the choice for homegrown biofuels at the pump". "That begins with strong trade policy and continued investment in renewable fuels. Although there is much to be done, we are optimistic that he is up to the task", the NFU said.

On Monday, nearly nine years after the Beijing Games, she got a call to tell her that she had been upgraded to a bronze medal. It's a shame Kelly didn't get her moment on the podium, but lovely to see her awarded the medals she deserves.

Others at the roundtable included Iowa Secretary of Agriculture and farmer Bill Northey, NC Commissioner of Agriculture and farmer Steve Troxler and former California Secretary of Agriculture and farmer A.G. Kawamura.

"The best representative for ag will be Sonny Perdue", said Johanns. He is a real-world farmer himself and knows the business inside out.

Perdue will also be part of the administration's response to a dispute with Canada's dairy industry, which has a new lower-priced classification of milk product that Trump says is harming US producers in dairy states like Wisconsin and NY. He fully understands the challenges and opportunities faced by our industry on issues such as regulatory reform, trade, and agricultural labor.

Perdue was sworn in by U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, who also is a native of Georgia.
