Hot Switch sales boost Nintendo sales, trim quarterly loss

"Furthermore, this year is Kirby's 25th anniversary, so we are planning to release downloadable titles and a new multiplayer action game for Nintendo 3DS".

On top of that, Sales of Zelda: Breath of the Wild helped out quite a bit, with 2.76 million Switch copies being sold and 1.08 million Wii U copies sold. That, as similarly noted mid-April, seems to be because the unprecedented greater than 1-to-1 attach rate is probably due to some fans snatching up one of the limited editions along with a second copy to play. The NPD Group, which is responsible for tracking the video game system sales, argued that Nintendo sold about 906,000 copies this March in the US.

The Nintendo Switch has only sold 2.74 million units, but that's only two months of sales. All the company says in its report is that 1-2 Switch "has been generating buzz". In total the 3DS sold 7.27 million consoles across its entire family line. The worldwide sales volume for the Nintendo 3DS hardware this period was 7.27 million units (7% increase on a year-on-year basis), while the Nintendo 3DS software sales volume reached 55.08 million units (14% increase on a year-on-year basis).

Note: if you must have the red model, you can also find it on Nintendo's store for the same $170, but for whatever mysterious reason, Nintendo's official store charges $5 for shipping, whereas shipping on eBay it's free for the black unit. "But there is a concern that the sales could slow down quickly like the short-lived boom of Wii-U". It also represents Nintendo's comeback effort after the Wii U failed to generate the same kind of interest as the original Wii. Remember Meme Run? If you don't, good, but it's the flawless example of just how easy it was for anyone with a devkit (which wasn't hard to obtain) to get their game out to the Nintendo userbase. It expects to sell 10 million Switches during the year, which means that 12 months from now, we could see Switch sales numbers sitting as high as 13 million. Assuming it can, Nintendo forecasts a massive 121 percent jump in profit for its current fiscal year, taking aim at 65 billion yen (around $584 million in USA currency), up from 29 billion yen (around $264 million) for the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2017.

Turkey arrests 1000 in connection with 2016 failed coup
The vast operation targeted big cities such as Istanbul as well as Izmir in western Turkey and Konya in the Anatolian heartland. Erdogan has repeatedly said he will wipe out the "virus" of Gulen from state institutions after the failed coup.

By and large, Nintendo announced gain of 489 billion yen and an operating benefit of 29.4 billion yen for its 2016 fiscal year.

Shares of Nintendo stock are down 0.56% today to ¥27,465 ($247) despite reporting an eye-popping outlook for the current fiscal year.

With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe out tomorrow (28 April), Switch's momentum is expected to continue. It plans to release titles featuring its classic Mario character and an addition to its highly popular Splatoon series by the end of this year.

It blends Nintendo's history in the console and handheld device business with its fledgling mobile gaming strategy, which got a big brand win after Pokemon Go's success last summer.
