Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day.

Yes, it is an Irish-themed bar, but the downtown spot hosts a Cinco de Mayo event to open its rooftop bar.

Unfortunately, a lot of people in the United States think Cinco de Mayo is a holiday centered around going out and eating tacos and ordering too many margaritas.

Originating in the 1860′s with Mexican-American communities in the American West, Southwest and Northwest, the American Cinco de Mayo began as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War. Singing about the strong woman of his dreams, Smith couldn't help but throw some of her magic into one of his tracks that fans get to bump up on their country music radio dials.
