On Thursday, it will be Ireland's chance to shine, but there's an old phrase that the bookies aren't wrong often, and they're not giving Ireland much of a chance of progression.

Artists from 42 countries take part in the competition held for the 62nd time.

Executive Producer of Eurovision 2017 Pavlo Hrytsak said this at a press conference at the International Exhibition Center today, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In one of the breaks in the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place last night, a new commercial from Icelandair was aired.

The UK is considered one of the competition's "big five" so has an automatic pass to Saturday's final, alongside France, Spain, Germany and Italy.

Ahead of her performance, which will be watched by a huge global audience, the 26-year-old said she would keep politics out of mind in the first Eurovision since the European Union referendum.

"People have their ideas about things, but it's Eurovision", she added.

"It's only fair that each song in the Eurovision Song Contest is judged on its individual merits on the night".

The UK Eurovision entry 2017 was confirmed back in January and Lucie will be representing us in Ukraine in May next weekend with song Never Give Up On You. Two Australians through to Eurovision grand final first appeared on The Sydney Morning Herald.
