Apple New, Faster iMacs & MacBooks Plus macOS High Sierra

Apple says the new MacBook models will be available to order through its online store on Monday, with retail availability starting on June 7.

All of the new desktops feature much faster Intel Core i5 and i7 "Kaby Lake" processors and there's more powerful graphics capabilities for video editing and gaming.

The Apple iPad Pro 10.5 starts at £619 and goes up to £1019, depending on the storage capacity and model you select.

Clearly, iMac Pro is the most powerful Mac you can own - until at least Apple decides to update the display-less Mac Pro in 2018. This new iMac Pro trumps both, and it's one that definitely should be on your radar. If you prefer the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, you'll get a larger $50 gift card. The last update was in 2015, and while that's hardly ancient, rivals weren't taking a time out, so Apple had to make a move to stay competitive.

Likewise, Apple has updated its MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops with Kaby Lake processors for faster processing and extended battery life.

The new model measures 250.6 x 174.1 x 6.1mm and it weighs 469g or 477g, depending on whether you opt for the Wi-Fi only model, or the Wi-Fi and LTE option.

Some of Apple's other staple apps are also seeing improvements. The word "Pro" features heavily, so consumers looking for a "value" product may find little of relevance among the latest additions to the Apple stable. While the new 10.5 version offers a larger screen, it's the same dimensions as the 9.7, thanks to a smaller bezel in the 2017 model. The new 12.9-inch iPad Pro comes with the A10X Fusion chip, and the display features ProMotion technology, which offers refresh rates of up to 120Hz.

The entry-level 12-inch MacBook starts with a 1.2GHz Intel Core m3 processor and 8GB of memory, with a 256GB solid state drive. The devices that have appeared, such as the MacBook Pro, have failed to resonate with professional audiences.

However, the iMac comes with what's an expensive option for PCs: the great 5K Retina monitor built-in. At $1,099, the base non-4K 21.5-inch iMac is a money-saving alternative, but you'll get a much lower-clocked processor and a return to integrated graphics. Not only did Apple relay that a completely redesigned Mac Pro was on the way, but Phil Schiller made a point of noting that the company was working on iMac configurations developed "specifically with the pro customer in mind".

Maxon's Cinebench R15 graphics test is a bit old by now, but the 27-inch iMac with the upgraded AMD graphics card hit 105.8 frames per second in OpenGL which is quick, and an impressive 592 in the CPU test.
