E3 2017: Shadow of the Colossus Makes Surprise Return to PS4

And it looks great, with a pretty impressive new coat of paint.

In case you might recall, Shadow originally released on the PlayStation 2 several years ago, developed by the folks at Team Ico.

Shadow of the Colossus has been trademarked for Class 9 (computer game software) and Class 41 (online game services), which is likely to ensure any sort of intellectual property surrounding the game is taken care of. It was directed by Fumito Ueda, the developer behind The Last Guardian.

Now, the trademark filing could be anything.

The publisher didn't share any additional details about the project other than SCE Japan is still apparently working on it with the help of Bluepoint Games, who handled the PlayStation 3 remaster. So it could go either way. The fact that Shadow of the Colossus remains so entrenched in the modern gaming discourse is a lasting monument to the game's singular vision. It's a wondrous game filled with danger, imagination and thrills, and one we wouldn't mind playing through again.

A surprise announcement from Sony, and from what we can tell this is a remaster of the 2005 classic.
