Alabama in the MLB Draft: Day 3 updates

On the first day of the draft on Monday, former Brentwood pitcher Will Gaddis was taken with the 86th overall pick by Colorado out of Furman University. A tweet from Cyphert on Wednesday appeared to indicate he planned to sign a professional contract rather than attend UA.

At the plate this past season, Hayes, who earned a dozen varsity sports letters at Science Hill, also hit.276 with 45 hits, 10 doubles and 36 RBI's. Teammate and fellow senior right-handed pitcher Duncan Robinson was taken by the Chicago Cubs with the 284th overall pick in the ninth round to kick off the 2016 Ivy draft class.

Stophel posted a 1-1 record with three saves and 45 strikeouts in 19 appearances in his senior year at King. The Alexandria, Va. native put together 13 scoreless outings including an 11.2 inning scoreless streak that spanned three weeks in the middle of the season.

Sophomore outfielder Chandler Taylor was drafted by the Minnesota Twins with the 796th pick in the 27th round.

In the 23rd round, Cochise slugger Jamori Blash went to the Washington Nationals as the 703rd overall pick in the draft. Taylor was Alabama's only All-SEC player last season, batting.282 with a team-high 16 home runs and 34 RBIs.

The games are notable for fostering bi-partisanship and providing a respite from the highly polarized politics of Capitol Hill. Steve Scalise (R-LA) confirmed that he had been wounded, and said he was in stable condition at a Washington , D.C. hospital.

Muhl is also the third player in GW history to go in the 25th round of the draft joining Scott Sharp (1994, Cincinnati Reds) and GW Athletic Hall of Famer John Flaherty (1988, Boston Red Sox).
