Governor appeals for more blood donation

Around the world, June 14 is marked as World Blood Donor Day to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their contribution.

"We thank South African donors for the priceless gift they give freely, generously and with no expectation of reward", said SA National Blood Service marketing manager Silungile Mlambo.

"This blood has helped boost the treatment of millions of people, particularly those on the edge between life and death", said the official. It also builds public awareness of the need for committed, year-round blood donation, in order to maintain adequate supplies and achieve a national self-sufficiency of blood.
