Adrift and almost out of money after three months of living out of his van in the Washington area, the gunman who shot a top House Republican and four other people on a Virginia baseball field didn't have any concrete plans to inflict violence on the Republicans he loathed, Federal Bureau of Investigation officials said Wednesday.

Two Capitol Police officers were also wounded.

Authorities later said that Hodgkinson had kept a storage locker filled with more than 200 rounds of ammunition at the YMCA near the baseball field.

The bill also turns another of Trump's campaign into law by creating a permanent VA accountability office, which Trump established by executive order in April.

They added that a piece of paper was found on the shooter with the names of six representatives written on it.

GJELTEN: Agent Slater said it appears Hodgkinson's decision to shoot up a Republican baseball practice was more spontaneous than planned. There was "no context included", though, and Slater would not characterize it as a "hit list" or as individuals being targeted, nor would Slater identify the members on the list in any way.

In April, Hodgkinson took cell phone photos and videos of various sites on the National Mall, and of several monuments including the US Capitol, the Library of Congress, the Washington Monument, and the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture. Hodgkinson had been in email contact with the two Democratic senators from IL, he said.

Slater, special agent in charge of the FBI Washington Field Office, said at the press conference that Hodgkinson was "known to have an anger management problem".

Watson said he learned of Hodgkinson's connection to the Virginia shooting shortly after 9:30 a.m., when he arrived at the department for a meeting. Prior to his departure from IL, a neighbor reported Hodgkinson to police for firing a gun on his property, but police determined he had not committed a crime.
