Relatives and residents were stunned by the arrest and murder charges against the father whose 5-year-old son has been missing since late April, most believing that the boy is still alive.

Aramazd Andressian Sr. was taken into custody Friday in Las Vegas. It wasn't immediately clear what prompted the arrest.

Andressian Sr. told detectives he had taken his son there that day, but surveillance video and multiple witness accounts place him alone at the location; investigators said they have no evidence that the child was with him when he went. The boy was spending the week with his dad.

In addition to trying to locate Aramazd, police are still trying to determine why the boy's father was passed out in the park. "The last time I saw my son was on Saturday morning, the 22nd, at Arroyo Park near my home in South Pasadena". He had "several minor injuries", police said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will discuss more details about the case at a press conference on Monday, June 26, 2017, at 11 a.m., at the Hall of Justice.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department did not say what specifically led to Aramazd Andressian Sr.'s arrest.

Andressian's son was last seen April 21 when he was in the custody of his father.

The Sheriff's Department has been mostly silent on the case since serving a search warrant at the home of Andressian Sr.'s mother almost a month ago. He is around 55 pounds. He has a small mole on the bottom of his right shoulder. Please call SPPD at 626-403-7297 if you have any info. A massive search for the missing boy ensued.

Despite an exhaustive search of several locations over the past two months, including some that have been combed through multiple times, the boy's body has not yet been found, according to sheriff's Lt. Joe Mendoza.

None of the officials in downtown Los Angeles Monday would talk much about the specific evidence they had against the father, Aramazd Andressian Sr. of South Pasadena. Andressian, Sr. said he could not remember what happened to his son. Jackie Lacey said her office has successfully prosecuted murder cases without a body and that she was confident there was strong evidence that Andressian "committed this disgusting crime". His son wasn't with him.

His 5-year-old Aramazd Andressian Jr. was last seen Friday. After having breakfast, he said, the boy wanted to go to the park before meeting his mom, CNN affiliate KCBS reported. "My family and I are heartbroken and grief-stricken that Aramazd Jr.is missing and may be in harm's way". Law enforcement officials intend to continue searching for the boy's body in Santa Barbara County, Mendoza said. He said he spoke to his client Thursday and his client contends he has no idea where his son is and is adamant he had nothing to do with his disappearance. "There are no words to describe how devastated and broken I am".

"To my son, this message is for you my love: be courageous, honey", Ana Estevez said through tears on May 18. "Piqui was everything great in my life and I can not imagine the emptiness and the void that I will bear until we are together again one day", the statement said. "I will never stop looking for you".
