2 injured after plane crashes on I-405 in California

Two people were on board and were taken to a nearby hospital.

A small plane made an emergency crash landing onto Interstate 405 in California, Sputnik reported.

The plane crashed into the highway's center divider and shut down traffic going in both directions.

Captain Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority told KABC that the plane clipped a auto on the freeway immediately before crashing, but the occupants of the vehicle were not hurt.

Larry Kurtz said two people in their early 60s were hospitalized with traumatic injuries.

The Santa Ana airport tweeted, the Cessna 310 aircraft landed on the freeway short of the runway at 9:35 a.m, . The witness said she saw a woman dragging a man from the wreckage. "Essentially tried to get control of my vehicle, checked my passenger to make sure he was OK, gave each other a hug that we were still alive".

It's incredible more people were not injured or killed, really.

The driver of a pickup truck says the plane clipped the rear of his vehicle as it came down on the roadway. The extent of the injuries were not known.

The airport said it was "currently closed to arrivals but departing flights are not affected".

The investigation is expected to cause major traffic flow problems for the already-busy Fourth of July weekend.
