Kmart in Lexington closing

The stores are set the close by early October, Sears Holdings said.

Last year, the company announced it was closing three Kmart locations in Lafayette, Elkhart, and Merrillville.

Liquidation sales at the closing stores will begin as early as next week.

Roanoke's Kmart is among the eight Sears and 35 Kmart stores that will be closing nationwide, according to Sears Holdings.

Friday's announcement comes less than two weeks after the company announced the shuttering of 20 stores across 14 states. "Following is a complete list of the impacted stores".

Sears acknowledged in March that there was "substantial doubt" it would survive on its own, though the company said its cost-cutting maneuvers and other retail strategies would greatly improve its chances of carrying on. "We've never been one to think that we would attract big box stores like Kmart, and I don't think that's where the future lies".

In view of the rising border tension, China on Wednesday also denied of a sooner Narendra Modi-Xi Jinping meet. Replying to the war rhetoric of China, Jaitley said, "India of 2017 is not the same as the India of 1962".


The Kmart at 2760 Frederica Street in Owensboro also will close, according to the list.

In the Toledo area, Kmart's golden years were in the 1960s and 1970s, when the company, then based in Detroit, was on the rise and frequently opening new stores across the region.

Fitchburg Mayor Stephen DiNatale agreed, and said young consumers are leading the charge away from brick-and-mortar shopping. Macy's plans to shut 68 stores.

Sears has seen several rounds of store closures this year. Those stores closed in December.

The closings are part of an attempt for the company to achieve $1.25 billion in annualized cost savings.

"We reached the point in the past 12 months where some of our vendors have reduced their support, thereby placing additional pressure on our business", Lampert said.
