As Hudek continued his attempts to open the cabin door, one flight attendant hit Hudek with two bottles of red wine, breaking one of them over his head.

An attendant aboard Delta Air Lines Flight 129 from Seattle to Beijing resorted to smashing a large bottle of red wine over a passenger's head after the man became violent during the flight.

When he came out again two minutes later, he suddenly lunged for the exit door, grabbed the handle and tried to open it, Highley wrote.

Delta flight attendants receive seven to eight weeks of initial training and recurrent training of which a "significant portion" focuses on the safety of passengers and flight attendants, according to a Delta spokesperson.

Hudek, who punched a flight attendant and an intervening passenger, had two wine bottles smashed over his head before he was eventually restrained, according to a probable cause document.

The plane was forced to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as a result.

A flight attendant asked for assistance from other passengers and notified the cockpit of the situation, and the pilot chose to divert the flight back to Seattle.

The US Attorney's Office has charged Hudek with interfering with a flight crew.

One flight attendant and a passenger were hospitalized for severe facial injuries.

Hudek had been traveling on a "dependent pass", the complaint said.

"He started yelling for help", Jones said. However, it could have conceivably been thrown open while the plane was descending, but luckily it did not. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, one flight attendant and one passenger suffered serious injuries to their faces in the fracas as fellow passengers and flight attendants teamed up to prevent Hudek from getting to the exit door.

Jones also noted that the man who instigated the incident was handcuffed and zip-tied by authorities, and taken through the airport terminal in a wheelchair. "And so he turned the wheelchair over in the middle of the airport, screaming for people to help him, just being belligerent".

Hudek remained combative during the entire diverted flight back to Seattle, and upon landing was arrested by police. Their injuries were serious, but non-life threatening injuries, according to Delta.

Joseph Daniel Hudek IV is a 23-year-old son of Delta Airlines employee Linda Hudek.

His grandfather told Q13: "He's a great kid, he's a real good guy; he works hard, saves his money, I don't know what happened. this is so out of character of him, I can't believe it", Hudek said.
