New York City Police Officer Miosotis Familia was shot in the head last week through the window of police vehicle that was parked in Brooklyn. Responding officers shot and killed the suspect, identified as 34-year-old parolee Alexander Bonds after he pulled a revolver on them during a chase, according to police. She said he had paranoid schizophrenia, and a search of his home after the shooting found medication, but it is unknown if he had been taking them.

Bonds' girlfriend had actually called the police two hours before the shooting to say that Bonds was acting erratically; as NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce put it, "She specifically said he was unarmed and acting a little off, but he was harmless".

On July 1, Bonds' girlfriend took him to St. Barnabas for psychiatric treatment, and he was released that same day, Boyce said.
