For quite a few months now, people have been floating the suggestion that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson should run for President of the United States in 2020.

Johnson, who is registered as an Independent, also joked about running during the season finale of "Saturday Night Live" in May.

Speculation around the Rock as a presidential nominee ticked up in May, when GQ published an article with the headline "Dwayne Johnson for President!" The organization, aptly called "Run the Rock 2020", was filed on behalf of Johnson with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) by West Virginia-based writer Kenton Tilford. The group is reportedly not officially tied to the Rock, but could signal the first steps in a serious bid.

HuffPost reached out to Tilford for comment and has not heard back. Tilford has no clear connection to Johnson and is certainly not an official spokesman; it is unclear if Johnson is even aware of the filing.

"I felt like it would either (a) make people unhappy with the thought of whatever my political view was".

But a Hollywood persona becoming president is not all that far-fetched.

"I think that it's a real possibility", he said about a probable presidential run. "Especially when you disagree with me", Johnson said.
