Live Crew Founding Member Fresh Kid Ice Dead at 53

Fresh Kid Ice aka Chris Wong Won of hardcore rap outfit 2 Live Crew has passed away.

2 Live Crew's Luther Campbell reacted to the news on Twitter, writing, "My condolence goes out to the family".

Fresh, born Chris Wong Won in Trinidad and Tobago, was renowned as one of the major rappers of Asian descent in hip-hop.

In addition to being an energetic outfit, 2 Live Crew were considered unsafe for their time, freely and graphically rapping about sex and misogyny before such practices were widely adopted by other rappers. The duo later linked up with Luther "Luke" Campbell when they signed with his record label.

Wong Won was arrested at Club Futura in Hollywood after performing songs from the album "As Nasty As They Wanna Be", which a judge ruled violated federal obscenity laws.

The group 2 Live Crew, which he formed alongside Mr. Mixx and Amazing Vee, is known for explicit hits including "Me So Horny", "What I Like" and "Throw the D".

Fresh Kid Ice spent time in the armed forces before getting into music. The group's last record, The Real One, was released in 1998. The artist released his memoir, My Rise 2 Fame: The Tell All Autobiography of a Hip Hop Legend in 2015.

Campbell, also known as "Uncle Luke", posted a tweet Thursday morning about the death of "Fresh Kid Ice". 'We've been in the background and stayed behind the scenes, but we learn from our mistakes.

Fresh Kid Ice suffered strokes in 2008 and 2010.
