As China Rejects Talks With India, Sushma Calls An All Party Meet

"The UN chief, the United States president, the Chinese leadership and others have offered to play a role in resolving the Kashmir issue", said the Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria. Indian security forces were engaged with their Chinese counterparts on the issue for nearly three weeks, after which China even stopped Indian pilgrims from taking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route through the Nathu La pass. "Those channels will continue to be used", External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Gopal Baglay said when asked about the almost month-long stand off in Doklam.

The government is expected to brief all the opposition parties on the Sikkim stand-off with China along the border.

Two American nuclear experts have claimed that India is modernising its atomic arsenal keeping China's nuclear strategy in mind.

China has alleged that the Indian troops are on its soil, but both Bhutan and India say the area in question is Bhutanese territory.

India has repeatedly ignored China's call for pulling its border-crossing troops from Doklam area back to its own territory.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang had earlier said that India and Pakistan are important South Asian countries but the "situation in Kashmir has attracted the attention of the global community".

The Congress had earlier raised concerns over the situation in Dokalam area where the armies of China and India are in a border standoff for a month now after Indian troops objected to road construction in the area. India has also dismissed China's offer- created to provoke and made yesterday- to help mediate in Kashmir to bring "peace and stability to the region". Bhutan co-operates closely with India in determining its foreign policy, and the Indian Army is involved in the training of its armed forces. But this time it is a totally different case.

On China, CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said the government told the leaders that it will tackle the situation through dialogue.

The meeting, which was also attended by Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, also discussed government's response to the developments on the border to be given at an all-party meeting to be held on July 16, ahead of the monsoon session. "China stands ready to play a constructive role to improve the relations between Pakistan and India", Geng Shuang had said.

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party leader Ramvilas Paswan said: "All parties were agreed that there cannot be compromise on issue of national interest".
