California father abandons infant in parking lot, cops say

A man in California landed himself in jail when he got caught on store surveillance video dropping off his 16-day-old baby in the parking lot of a strip mall.

Mitchell was treated for injuries he sustained in the collision at the North Bay Medical Center. The infant was flown to an Oakland hospital after the mall officials noticed abnormalities in the baby's eyes. Andrew White of the Suisun City Police Department. In surveillance footage Daniel Mitchell is seen driving up to a parking spot at 141 Sunset Ave. and opening the door to the back seat of his auto.

Following the interview, officers arrested Mitchell on suspicion of child endangerment, child abandonment, committing a felony while on bail and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. "Plus, the way people pull into the smoke shop, he could have been hit by a vehicle".

The barbers went next door to check the surveillance tape of the smoke shop.

The barbers called police at 3:15 p.m.

Suisun City police contacted Mitchell at the hospital and determined he is the father of the baby boy.

The mother of the baby boy talked with police and is not considered a suspect, police said.

Police said Mitchell was previously arrested on June 27 by Suisun City officers on multiple felony charges, including possession of a firearm, after a report of a burglary in the city.

"We're just shocked because it's a newborn baby".
