That has however been placed in doubt after at the end of last week he posted a picture on social media claiming to be ill.

Hours after Wenger confirmed that Sanchez was due back in training with Arsenal on Sunday the Chilean forward, who had been given extra time off to recover after the Confederations Cup, posted on Instagram that he had the flu.

"Fabinho and [Thomas] Lemar are essential players, they will stay with us", Vadim Vasilyev said on Wednesday.

His Emirates Stadium future remains up in the air as he enters the final season of his current contract, with talks on a new deal seemingly at an impasse.

"No development, always the same, He is staying, of course", Wenger said.

Sanchez was absent through illness as Arsenal thrashed Benfica 5-2 in the Emirates Cup on Saturday and has been tipped to leave the club this summer.

"He has flu. He texted me to say he will come back as soon as possible". He would have come back tomorrow but he will be here on Tuesday.

'Your job is to be suspicious.

"He's flying back as soon as he's in a position to fly back".

Sanchez is one of a number of Arsenal players who are out of contract next summer, including the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Responding to the question of Sanchez has told him he wants to stay at the club despite interest in him, Wenger said: "I can not reveal a secret conversation". What is the future of the club, what's going on, what's happening, it has great uncertainty.

Meanwhile, Monaco have rejected Arsenal's latest £50million offer for winger Thomas Lemar. "I am responsible for the global policy of the club but for the players it is different".
