Deputy Chief Mike Hartley of the Bloomington Police Department said officers received a report about the explosion around 5 a.m. (6 a.m. ET) Saturday.

Asad Zaman, director of the Muslim-American Association of Minnesota, told WCCO-TV that a witness saw someone standing by the imam's office window before the blast.

"The sprinkler system went off and immediately water came down", Omar said.

Between 15 and 20 people were reportedly gathered at the Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Centre in Bloomington when the explosion ripped through the building.

Police say there is a window broken on the outside and it's not clear whether an explosive was thrown through the window, or the explosion caused the window to break.

An explosion caused by what the Federal Bureau of Investigation called "a destructive device" rocked a Bloomington Islamic center at dawn Saturday, just as a small group of worshipers had gathered for prayers.

Mohamed Omar, executive director of the center, said a center member saw someone leave in a truck shortly after the blast.

An explosion on Saturday morning at a mosque in a Minneapolis suburb shattered windows in the imam's office but did not injure anyone, officials said.

People make phone calls following an explosion at the Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington, Minn.

"If a bias motive is proven, this attack would represent another in a long list of hate incidents targeting Islamic institutions nationwide in recent months", Malik said.

Authorities are investigating a reported explosion at mosque in a Minneapolis suburb.

The center attracts Muslims from around the metropolitan Minneapolis-St.

Since the morning attack at mosque, the area has been shut down as an active crime scene, but it has also attracted well-wishers, from neighbors to other members of the faith community. "We are strong and we don't want to lose hope because of things that happen".

The mosque serves as a religious center and community organizing platform for Muslim activists and leaders in the area, said the society, which is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest or conviction. "We're here to help each other, to support each other".
