Everton have confirmed that they are interested in Gylfi Sigurdsson, with Coach Ronald Koeman himself confirming that the Blues are chasing the Icelandic star.

The Iceland global has been linked with a move to Goodison Park all summer, with both the Toffees and Leicester having had £40m bids rejected by Swansea, who value the player at £50m.

"But they are right in holding out if you value a player.it's very unfortunate for a club like Swansea who want to hold onto their best players".

"We are close (on Sigurdsson), we have to wait. the deal is not done", Koeman told Sky Sports after the Toffees' 2-2 with Sevilla on Sunday.

Sigurdsson is expected to seal a move to Goodison Park this summer despite the Welsh club's insistence on a sale only when his £50 million asking price is met.

Swansea concluded their pre-season preparations with an impressive 4-0 win over Sampdoria at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday, with the home side prevailing without Sigurdsson's presence.

Swansea City boss said nothing has changed, hints that the Iceland midfielder would remain at Everton, however the Everton boss Ronald Koeman said he is optimistic on signing the 27-year-old midfielder.

"The reason that he wasn't in the squad is that he was not fit to play today", he added.

"There has been no further update since I last spoke to the media on Wednesday", he said. Should the Icelandic global sign with the Toffees, he would be joining Davy Klaassen, Jordan Pickford, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney as new arrivals at Goodison Park.
