The US Navy F/A-18E was in a holding pattern as it prepared to land on the USS Nimitz when the drone flew just 100 feet away, an official said.

An Iranian drone comes within 100 feet of of a USA fighter jet in the Persian gulf, prompting the jet to take necessary action to avoid collision. The drone prompted the plane to repeatedly make evasive maneuvers to avoid the drone.

Three days earlier in the gulf, the USS Thunderbolt fired multiple warning shots at an armed Iranian patrol boat believed to be operated by the IRGC. Central Command officials said. It did eventually move off.

"The risky maneuver by the QOM-1 in the known vicinity of fixed wing flight operations and at coincident altitude with operating aircraft created a collision hazard and is not in keeping with worldwide maritime customs and laws", the statement said.

According to the commander, this is the 13th incident as "unsafe and unprofessional" since the beginning of the year in this sector.
