Carolina quarterback Cam Newton thrown passes during practices as he rehabs his surgically repaired shoulder, but he's not expected to play Saturday.

The Panthers offense got off to a bad start, as the unit turned the ball over twice and had a three-and-out in its first three possessions.

Completions to receiver Tre McBride (for 21 yards) and tight end Jonnu Smith (six yards) put the Titans on their way, and set up a 34-yard field goal from kicker Ryan Succop to make it 3-0. The Titans finished tied for 17th in total takeaways past year - 24th in fumble recoveries (six) and tied for 18th in interceptions (12).

In the video below, Henry uses the stiff-arm on a 17-yard touchdown against Carolina's first-team defense. Cornerback Logan Ryan forced a fumble that Kevin Byard recovered, and Jaylon Brown's tipped pass was intercepted by Justin Staples.

The Tennessee bounced back from their first practice session with Carolina. The Titans cashed both turnovers in for scores.

Artis-Payne made a big step in that direction Saturday, running for 70 yards and a touchdown on five carries.

The Titans made some big plays on defense in this one as well.

Wide receiver Damiere Byrd snagged two touchdown grabs and caught for 98 yards, while first-round draft pick Christian McCaffrey gained 33 yards on seven rushing attempts. After going without a reception in the preseason opener, McBride posted four catches for 73 yards against the Panthers. Unfortunately for McBride, he dropped what should have been a touchdown pass while diving into the end zone.

McCaffrey didn't get a touchdown on the next drive, but he got the Panthers in Tennessee territory with a 38-yard screen pass. Past year at USC, for instance, Jackson returned two punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns. Unfortunately for Jackson and the Titans, the touchdown return was waved off due to a penalty.
