'Get out now!' Levee breaches south of Houston as flooding intensifies

"The levee at Columbia Lakes has been breached!" a tweet from Brazoria County read.

Engineers have been releasing water from the dam in order to reduce pressure on the structure, causing more flooding in the area.

Any residents who have not already evacuated the area should leave immediately, officials said. However, the releases couldn't keep up with the fast rising water levels.

Jeff Lindner, with the Harris County Flood Control District, said he's certain that more homes and streets will flood as a result of overflowing reservoirs.

The catastrophic flooding from Tropical Storm Harvey isn't over yet. GET OUT NOW!" CNN's John Berman broke the news mid-broadcast, noting that "portions of that county have been under a mandatory evacuation for a couple of days now.

Saudi authorities have mobilised vast resources including more than 100,000 security personnel to avoid a repeat of the deadly stampede in 2015.

The city's largest shelter was overflowing when the mayor announced plans to create space for thousands of extra people by opening two and possibly three more mega-shelters.

Controlled releases of it and the nearby Barker Reservoir's contents were performed with limited success, but continued rainfall suggested the Addicks Dam ultimately wouldn't be enough to contain the deluge, per the Army Corps of Engineers.

The Coast Guard told their relatives that they could not search for the bodies until the water recedes.

"Both the county judge and I sat down together and decided that we were not in direct path of the storm, of the hurricane, and the safest thing to do was for people to stay put, make the necessary preparations".

Texas officials fear that the death toll from Harvey is likely to rise, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
