The Monaco winger was set to join Arsenal after Monaco accepted the Gunner's club-record £92m offer but the deal fell through because it could not be completed in time.

Lemar, who was subject to a reported £92 million bid from Arsenal on deadline day, chose to turn down a move to Arsene Wenger's side on Thursday afternoon.

Alexis Sanchez was a target of Manchester City this summer.

It wasn't all bad for Arsenal, who managed to hold on to their most prized possession, Sanchez.

"No games now so I hope you can enjoy the next five or six days with all the rumours and all that stuff".

"When you cannot do it you keep the player, and you make a financial sacrifice because at the end of the day what you want is to have a team with good potential and top quality".

Sanchez has just a year left on his Arsenal contract and it now appears he will leave on a free transfer next summer with Guardiola left disappointed.

The report also suggests that Liverpool are likely to make a fresh move for Lemar in the next transfer window.

"I am a player of Monaco, I am very happy there", Lemar told Canal + after the 4-0 victory over Holland.

Now Monaco have signed Senegal forward Balde, who plays in a similar position to Lemar amid suggestions that the Frenchman has asked to leave Monaco.

Both players were instrumental in winning the French title with Monaco last season, their first league win since 2000.
