San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee is calling on The City's residents, corporate partners and philanthropic organizations to help donate to the Greater Houston Community Foundation and the Houston Independent School District Foundation in the wake of Hurricane Harvey hitting the city of Houston. Created to curb looting, the curfew mandates that people be off the streets between midnight and 5 a.m.

The mayor said the curfew would take effect on Tuesday evening from 0500 GMT and would be lifted daily at 10:00 a.m. The city is also bringing additional police from other regions.

"We have had problems with armed robberies, with people with guns and firearms", said Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo.

Turner announced during a news conference Tuesday evening that the downtown basketball arena will be used to help reduce overflow at the nearby George R. Brown Convention Center, which is now sheltering 10,000 people.

One shelter will open on the city's west side, near where more than 3,000 homes have been flooded.

Mayor Cohen added that, due to the difficulty of moving around the affected areas, donations of clothes and food were better handled local, but that the giving of cash would be the most helpful way of supporting the people of Texas.
