Piyush Goyal replaces Prabhu as Railway Minister

Rewarded for his hard work, Piyush Goyal, holding charge of four important ministries (Power, Coal, Renewable Energy and Mines) as the minister of state with Independent Charge, has been elevated to the rank of a full-fledged cabinet minister in the reshuffle by Narendra Modi government on Sunday morning.

The Railway Minister also said that the number of train accidents had come down when he was the Railway Minister. Prabhu had himself removed many senior officials fixing direct responsibility for the increasing mishaps. Prabhu made these comments hours after he had stepped down from the post of Union Railway Minister.

Even before reshuffle of portfolios was officially announced, Prabhu tweeted his gratitude to railway employees.

In what may be called as a farewell message, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, who is expected to lose the portfolio, today thanked the rail family for their support.

Earlier in the day, the nine new ministers met PM Modi and party chief Amit Shah.

The 53-year-old former investment banker, Goyal is entering the Rail Bhavan located near Parliament with an experience of overseeing an "allegation-free" auctions of coal blocks as Coal Minister in the Narendra Modi government.

Government sources said the Prime Minister, Modi has chose to bestow him with more responsibility.
