Cascade Locks fire grows to 3200 acres

In Washington state, the Diamond Creek fire, near the Canadian border in the Okanogan/Wenatchee National Forest, grew to 75,000 acres Monday, said Robin DeMario, a fire-information officer with Northwest Interagency Coordination Center.

Easterly winds are expected to pick up Monday night and Tuesday, which could lead to rapid fire spread, the National Weather Service said. A fire started by kids playing with fireworks is destroying forests and famous OR locations along the Columbia River.

Estimated 10,000+ acres and 0% containment.

Firefighters in Ottumwa had to respond Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, to a brush fire on Camille Street, a reminder of just how quickly small fires can become a problem.

I-84 Exit 41 to Eagle Creek is closed due to the fire.

"Fire burning right along a major interstate, closing 40 miles of road, threatening homes - this is a big deal", Dave Thompson, a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Transportation, told Oregon Live.

Warrendale, Dodson, Larch Mountain, and East Corbett have already been told to "go" with Latourell and Bridal Veil told to get ready to go. Residents as far west as Portland and Vancouver reported ash falling.

But the fire caused trouble near the the state's largest metropolitan area after officials closed down miles of interstate roads.

Fire officials say an OR wildfire in the scenic Columbia River Gorge has grown to almost 16 square miles and is threatening homes.

The Hood River County Sheriff's Office says family and friends can reunite with the hikers at the Eagle Creek Fish Hatchery.

Mountain Wave Search and Rescue president Russ Gubele says about 104 people have made their way down a different trail to safety. In the early morning, the fire hopped across the Columbia River into Washington near Archer Mountain.
