No one's using Facebook Stories, so the company's taking a new approach

Facebook is now testing out a feature on Instagram that allows you to cross-post to Facebook from Instagram, so you can easily share your Instagram stories to your Facebook crowd. "We have no other plans to share at this time", an Instagram spokesperson said in an official statement, as per Mashable.

The Instagram test, which appears to be now live in at least Portugal, was first spotted on Twitter by The Next Web's Matt Navarra.

The social media giant has even added new features to the stories option, placed it prominently on the top of the news feed and also announced to bring the feature to desktops. If you could post simultaneously would it encourage you to share your Stories on Facebook as well? So it was only logical for the photo-sharing service to add a feature to share stories on Facebook as well. However, none of this has helped the abysmal usage of Facebook stories.

Stories has now been integrated across all of Facebook's products including WhatsApp, Messenger and its core app. Of course, Instagram's move is aimed at driving more users to Facebook Stories. Perhaps by mixing Facebook and Instagram's Stories together, Facebook could solve this problem. Since Facebook bought Instagram back in 2012 the two have remained nearly separate and although Instagram users have been able to share individual photo and video posts to their Facebook News Feed for some time, no content could travel in the other direction.

The Verge calls the test quite sad and desperate, as if Facebook is doing everything it can to goad audiences into using Stories on its own platform.
