Browns will send rookie DeShone Kizer as the starting quarterback on Sunday and now head coach Hue Jackson has named second-year player Kevin Hogan as the backup QB.

On second and goal from the Pittsburgh one-yard line, Kizer took the snap, ran around left tackle and muscled his way into the end zone for his first career touchdown.

The Cleveland Browns are building for the future - and it's a good thing, too, because the present looks very grim indeed.

Kizer completed 20-of-30 passes for 220 yards with a touchdown and an interception and was sacked 7 times in his National Football League regular season debut. The key play in the 68-yard drive was a 21-yard pass interference penalty on Steelers safety Sean Davis at the Pittsburgh 4-yard line.

The Steelers had 62 yards of offense until the scoring drive that started at the Steelers 9.

Browns general manager Sashi Brown, who arrived in June, is not off to a great start. Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell, in his first game after missing the preseason in a contract dispute, carried 10 times for 32 yards.

Roethlisberger lobbed his deep pass near Pittsburgh's sideline toward Brown, who went up over Browns defensive back Jason McCourty and hauled in the game's biggest catch.

What it means for the Browns: 2017 was supposed to build off last season's 1-15 campaign.
