The wind on Long Island in the Bahamas moved from the southeast to the northwest Saturday afternoon, which is causing the water to blow away from the shoreline. On the northwest side of the island, it would be blowing the water away from the shoreline.

Meteorologists explain the incredible pressure from Hurricane Irma is pulling the water into the storm's center.

Angela Fritz, deputy weather editor of the Washington Post noted that extremely powerful hurricanes, such as Irma can change the shape of the ocean for a period of time.

Yesterday we posted the video of water being sucked from around Long Island in the Bahamas.

The storm is so powerful that it has literally absorbed ocean water into its core enough that it dried out the ocean surrounding the Bahamas.

In a video posted to Facebook on Saturday, a person is seen jumping off a pier onto what used to be the sandy bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

This is being marked as one of the most extraordinary weather phenomena's in history.

Luckily for the locals, the water did not come gushing in all at once, with Adrian later tweeting that the sea "came back".

The phenomenon, though rare, is not a sign of a tsunami, according to the Post. The water will return to Long Island, and it probably won't rush back with any great force.

It is expected to make landfall Sunday, hitting the Florida Keys, southwestern Florida and the Tampa Bay area.
