President Trump rescinds DACA, fate of Tennessee 'Dreamers' resides with Congress

This letter has been signed by administrators from 57 colleges and universities across the U.S. The letter, addressed to House Speaker Paul Ryan, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, urges Congress to "immediately enact a permanent legislative solution for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program".

Donald Trump's former chief strategist said the president's request for Congress to legalize some people brought to the US unlawfully as children could cost Republicans their majority in the House of Representatives in the 2018 mid-term elections.

In their lawsuit, the prosecutors from the states of New York, Massachusetts, Washington, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia, as well as from the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.), said the decision announced Tuesday by US Attorney General Jeff Sessions would harm their states' residents, institutions and economies.

Although Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery III was one of the ten attorney generals to push for Trump to end DACA, he chose to step back from the suit right before Trump made his decision, citing a human element as the cause.

While immigration remains a national flashpoint - and there's no shame in any nation wanting to control its borders - protecting the Dreamers would be in keeping with American immigration history.
