South Korea's presidential office spokesman Park Soo-hyun said on Sunday that Moon and Trump had in a Sunday telephone conversation strongly condemned the latest missile launch by North Korea and agreed to work with the worldwide community to implement the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)'s latest resolution against Pyongyang.

Mattis elaborated and said the USA would take "immediate actions" to intercept and shoot down any missile headed for Japan, South Korea or Guam.

The North also fired a ballistic missile over Japan and into the Pacific on Friday, responding to fresh new United Nations sanctions with what appeared to be its longest-ever missile flight.

"Bluster, threat and hyperbole" also seem to be the order of the day when it comes to exchanges between the United States leader and the country it has never technically come to peace with.

Asked whether there were any military options the United States could take with North Korea that would not put Seoul at grave risk, Mattis said: "Yes there are".

Mr Mattis also confirmed that the USA and South Korea had discussed the option of sending limited-size "tactical" nuclear weapons to South Korea.

Military options available to the United States range from non-lethal actions such as a naval blockade to enforce sanctions to waging cyber attacks and positioning new USA weaponry in South Korea, where the United States has 28,500 troops. "You will. So we have to assume, and as commander of Strategic Command I have to assume, that they have the bomb and they will have the capability to deploy it on an ICBM", Hyten said.

Members of the administration have repeatedly emphasized that a range of military options are on the table and Mattis said Monday that the United States possess military options that would not put Seoul at risk of a North Korean counterattack with the potential to kill tens of thousands of civilians.

"The so-called "China's responsibility theory" is essentially moral kidnapping", the People's Daily said in a commentary.

Kuwait has also notified the North Korean ambassador to Kuwait City that he must go by the end of the month.

In addition, the Philippines, Pyongyang's fifth-biggest trade partner, said that it would cease trade with North Korea.

China's foreign ministry said Monday that military threats being made by North Korea and the US were counterproductive.

Tensions on the peninsula could increase further over the next few weeks.

Instead, he said, the worldwide community should strictly implement the sanctions imposed on North Korea by the U.N. Security Council.
