One killed in mass shooting at Antioch church, Nashville police say

NBC reported that one person died. The hospitals have been placed on mass casualty alert. All of the wounded have been transported to area hospitals. 1 other victim pistol whipped and at hospital. The shooter then reportedly shot himself but survived, although the extent of his injuries is unknown.

Aaron said he was "not aware" of any relationship between the alleged gunman and any of the worshippers inside the church. They said eight people, almost all of them adults over age 60, were being treated for gunshot wounds and the area around the church remained shut down.

"Every time that church door open. that young woman was there", said Love, who is not a parishioner. The suspect shot himself before being taken into custody.

She said her husband went back there and found a victim in a parking lot and other victims inside the church suffering from gunshot wounds, including a person in the doorway.

The Burnette Chapel Church of Christ, which has a weekly service at 10 a.m., is located about 10 miles southeast of downtown Nashville.

Police spokesman Don Aaron told reporters that officers responded to the call at 11:15 a.m.

Police captured the gunman, who was also among those injured.

A suspected shooter was counted among the wounded, according to Nashville Fire Department's Twitter account.

Burnette Chapel's minister, Joey Spann, was among the victims, police say.
