Paddock's girlfriend, Marilou Danley, 62, who was in the Philippines at the time of the Sunday night shooting, was met by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents at the Los Angeles airport late Tuesday, according to a law enforcement official who wasn't authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The sisters, who spoke to 7 News exclusively, did not want to be identified by name and requested their faces be blurred.

Shortly afterwards she moved to the U.S. - this is where her history appears more complicated. "She was sent away [sic]", one of her sisters said.

One passenger told Reuters she overheard members of the flight crew saying that one of them had escorted Ms Danley from the plane.

"If I had to pick somebody on that playground who might go insane someday and kill a bunch of people it would never be him", Alarcon said.

It is still unclear whether Danley was the girlfriend of Paddock, who USA reports say was going through a divorce before carrying out the massacre which ended when he killed himself.

"We have had a conversation with her and we believe her at this time not to be involved., Obviously that investigation will continue".

"No one can put the puzzles together". Because Steve is not here to talk anymore. Another one of her sisters added "In that sense, I thank him for sparing my sister's life", and that Danley was "really in love with Steve".

Danley first arrived in the Philippines on September 15, according to immigration documents there.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters meeting President Trump's plane in Nevada that the interview was to be conducted shortly.

They said they were surprised to learn Danley had gone to the Philippines two weeks ago.

Stephen Paddock is seen in a photo provided by CNN.

"He was kind of quiet, but I just remembered him being a nice guy", said former California State Assembly Member Richard Alarcon, who attended John H. Francis Polytechnic High School with Paddock, and knew him since he was seven.

The FBI met her at the airport and was taken out a back way to avoid the public eye.

He had no criminal record and was not known to police, who have yet to state his motives for the mass shooting, the worst in USA modern history.

Why did he continue firing with an arsenal of weapons for nine to 11 minutes, leaving at least 58 people dead and more than 500 with gunshot wounds or stampede injuries?

So far, police believe Paddock acted alone - which could make his motive harder to determine. And authorities say it's too early to tell whether the killings were an act of domestic terrorism.

According to her sisters, Danley is now the only person who can shed light on the possible motives and mindset of the gunman despite being unaware of his impending actions, defending her as a "good person".

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said her government was working with U.S. authorities but told CNN affiliate Sky News on Monday that Australia had had no direct contact with Danley.

The 62-year-old Danley was in a relationship with Paddock for a few years, reportedly meeting while she worked as a hostess at a Reno, Nevada casino. It's unclear when the couple met. "We have discovered he was utilizing some of her identification".
