The United Bid Committee announced Wednesday that they have narrowed down North America to 32 potential host cities for the 2026 World Cup.

The United Bid Committee stressed that non-host cities will be considered for such tasks as possible locations for team base camps or other non-competition related events leading up to the tournament.

Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver have been put forward as the four Canadian cities, while the Mexican candidates are Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey. Of those, six (Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Atlanta, Foxborough and Seattle) have been proposed using venues now used by MLS teams.

The United Bid Committee representing the three nations' joint bid for the event announced Wednesday that nine cities - seven in the USA, two in Canada - had expressed interest are no longer in the running. We have a vision for growing the game and engaging fans as never before. Basically, all three countries are teaming up to be one big hosting site for the 2026 World Cup (we imagine that the travel would be grueling for players, but whatever). The committee whittled the list of contending cities down to 32 spots across the three nations.

Cities that did not make the cut will be offered other ways to be part of World Cup festivities if the North American bid is successful. "Canada has proven itself to be a soccer nation and we are confident Canadians will come together to show, once again, the wonderful Canadian hospitality that has helped make each of our previous Federation Internationale de Football Association tournaments successful". Representatives from the 32 potential host cities will travel to Houston during the week of November 13 for a working session with the United Bid Committee. The current proposal ensures 10 of the 80 World Cup matches would be played in Canada, with 10 more in Mexico.

Morocco are the only other contender for the 2026 tournament, having announced their candidacy in June.
