India captain Virat Kohli praised his team's bowlers after the hosts thrashed Australia by nine wickets in a rain-truncated first Twenty20 worldwide at Ranchi.

The visitors lost 7-69 in the first T20 worldwide in Ranchi as they limped to 8-118 before rain ended their innings with eight balls remaining. Yuzvendra Chahal has Glenn Maxwell once again.

Australia collapsed from 76-3 to 89-5. David Warner stood in for him as captain. But if the third and fourth balls went to the boundaries, the fifth one took an inside edge off Warner's willow and crashed onto the stumps.

The dismissal of Glenn Maxwell, who added 47 with Finch, halted Australia's all-too-brief charge.

Shikhar Dhawan replaces Ajinkya Rahane in the side. Adam Zampa bounced back excellently from a first-ball four in the penultimate over to concede just six and leave India with as many to get off the last over, and Kohli sealed it with a lofted four over extra-cover off Daniel Christian.

Australian cricketer David Warner walks back to the pavilion after being bowled out by India's Bhuvneshwar Kumar, right, during their first T20 cricket match in Ranchi, India, Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017.

There's no break for Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma, and even MS Dhoni will continue to wicket-keep, even though they have brought in Dinesh Karthik as a stand-in keeper.

Australia's success in the series will also depend on their pace bowling department comprising of the likes of Patrick Cummins, Behrendorff, Kane Richardson and Nathan Coulter-Nile.

All-rounders Dan Christian and Moises Henriques have joined the squad for the T20 series. The rise of Hardik Pandya, along with the guile of the two wrist spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal made life hard for Australia in the one-day series.
