A vehicle connected to the mass shooting that took place in Las Vegas was located in Reno, 760 km northwest of the US city where the tragedy occurred, local authorities said Thursday.

Marilou Danley, 62-years old and a former "high-limit hostess" at a Vegas casino, was named a person of interest by Vegas police after they discovered the body of 64-year-old Stephen Paddock inside his hotel room at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Before Stephen Paddock made a decision to attack the Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas he may have considered carrying out similar massacres in other cities, including Chicago and Boston, NBC News reports.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said in a press briefing that he had spent decades collecting guns and ammunition.

"He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something disgusting like this was going to happen", she said.

Two months later, Paddock booked rooms at the 32nd floor in the Mandalay Bay hotel and fired at the crowd attending a music festival, leaving 58 people killed and more than 500 injured. (AAP) Marilou Danley has faced questioning over her relationship with Paddock.

He reportedly booked two rooms overlooking Grant Park at the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago, with arrival dates of August 1 and August 3 and check-out dates of August 6.

Although her connection to Paddock or the shooting is unknown, officials want to question her in order to construct the timeline of events leading up to the attack.

Investigators say Paddock was the lone shooter.

The Australian girlfriend of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock said he showed signs of mental illness and would often lie in bed screaming.

Investigators remain clueless as to Paddock's motive for the attack.

The police believe Paddock acted alone.

He had also booked another room at a nearby hotel.

"You gotta make the assumption he had to have some help at some point", said Lombardo.

Investigators found 23 guns inside Paddock's hotel room and 12 so-called "bump stock" devices that can enable a rifle to fire continuously.
