Heavy Smoke, Ash From Anaheim Fire Causes Unhealthy Air Quality Across Region

Large clouds of smoke are visible from the Cal State Fullerton campus as a brush fire in Anaheim Hills has burned through thousands of acres, prompting evacuations throughout the area. Officials haven't yet determined the cause of the fire. However, the boundary line was pronounced, and the area of the Canyon Fire 2 was still experiencing single-digit relative humidity levels, courtesy of the Santa Ana Winds.

"We're hoping that the weather goes in our favor", Anaheim police spokesman Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.

Anaheim: east of Serrano, north of Nohl Ranch, south of 91 freeway, west of 241 freeway.

Those evacuated were directed to the Downtown Anaheim Community Center, 250 East Center Street, or the Downtown Anaheim Youth Center, 225 South Philadelphia.

Katella High School in Anaheim and El Modena High School in Orange were open overnight to evacuees overnight.

With between 3,000 and 4,000 residents potentially impacted, mandatory evacuations have been ordered in several areas around the fire (detailed in the map below).

Yorba, Irvine and Santiago Oaks regional parks were all closed to the public "as a precaution due to the proximity of the fire, " said Marisa O'Neil of OC Parks.

Motorists were advised to take the Orange (57) Freeway to the Pomona (60) Freeway, California Highway Patrol Officer Florentino Olivera said.
