A 3-year-old boy was reunited with his parents Tuesday morning after his parents left him at a corn maze overnight.

West Jordan Police said a corn maze employee found the child at about 8 p.m. Monday night and turned over the child to an officer. It had then been some 12 hours since a woman had discovered the crying boy alone at the Crazy Corn Maze in the Salt Lake City suburb of West Jordan and brought him to the maze owners.

'The fact that it took so long for them to realize the child was missing - was it purely an accident?

The boy was placed into custody of the Utah Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) for the night.

The child was said not to be injured. Security personnel started to search and Schmidt went through the maze with a bullhorn, calling out for anyone who might be missing a child, he said. A police officer took the boy to her auto and played a movie for him, Fox 13 Salt Lake City reported.

No charges have been filed but police are still investigating.
