The allegations against the prime minister stemmed from the Panama Papers leak a year ago, which sparked media frenzy over the luxurious lifestyles and high-end London property portfolio owned by his family.

He said that Nawaz Sharif is overseas due to the frail health of his wife, and has appeared in court before, while his daughter and son-in-law have appeared which shows their respect from the court.

The application urged the court to delay the indictment until the Supreme Court decides a petition filed by Sharif against the filing of multiple corruption references against him by NAB.

The court also indicted his daughter Maryam and her husband in the case, which relates to the family's luxury London properties.

All three accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and vowed to contest the case.

Security is tight and a large number of party supporters along with lawyers have not been allowed entry into the premises so as to avoid any situation like the one that developed the last time Maryam and Safdar appeared before court.

Moreover, talking about her latest upcoming film Padmavati, Deepika said that shooting for the film was quite exhausting for her. The first full-length biography of Hema Malini titled Beyond The Dream Girl will also be launched today.

Maryam Nawaz alleged that the Sharifs are victims of political conspiracy. He also read out a statement of the ex-premier, who is in London with his ailing wife for the past few weeks.

The anti-graft court's indictment follow months of investigations and hearings by the National Accountability Bureau into Sharif family finances uncovered in "a trove of documents leaked from a Panama law firm that investigators say showed the family held unreported assets overseas", according to the AP.

"Minister for State Abid Sher Ali on Thursday said that the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leadership's respect for the country's judiciary is evident from the fact that they neither complained of backache nor ran away from courts".

Maryam and Safdar were present in court, but Sharif, who was prime minister twice in the 1990s, sent a representative while he tends to his wife as she undergoes cancer treatment in Britain. Maryam said her party is still united despite the differences of opinion.

Talking to members of the media inside the courtroom where a corruption hearing against her and family was under way, Maryam said, "First they awarded us a punishment and then the trial started".

Hashmi, in a leaked video, had threatened those "investigating the prime minister's son".
