Ecommerce giant Amazon has inaugurated its 253MW wind farm in Scurry County, in the USA state of Texas, which is capable of generating 1,000,000MWh of clean electricity annually.

The video might be for fun, but Amazon's serious about the wind farm.

Iron Mountain, a storage and information management services company, will buy the remaining 10% of power generated at the wind farm, located near Snyder, west Texas. "It's become a very significant part of the market, and we see it continuing". The project was built, and is owned and operated by, wind and solar developer Lincoln Clean Energy (LCE). The company estimates that it's USA clean energy projects will generate enough energy to power more than 300,000 homes, according to its press release.

Amazon said it has launched 18 wind and solar projects across the United States, with more than 35 still to come online to help meet the goal of powering its global resources with 100% renewable energy.

Kara Hurst, Amazon's Worldwide Director of Sustainability said: "Investing in renewable energy is a win-win-win-win - it's right for our customers, our communities, our business and our planet". "These are important steps toward reaching our long-term goal to power our global infrastructure using 100 percent renewable energy", she added. Each turbine is over 300 feet tall and their wingspans are even longer than a Boeing 747 commercial jet. The plan is to ramp up use of renewable solar and wind power to offset energy used at its facilities, increasing the energy-efficiency of heating and lighting sources in stores, actively managing its refrigerant inventory and exploring new programs, Target said. "Kennedy Phase I has the potential to leverage Australia's abundant renewable energy resources and be a giant leap forward for the country in reaping those resources while ensuring a consistent and reliable electricity supply". It's among 18 Amazon wind and solar projects in operation, and the company has more than 35 projects in development.
