Mann's Recalls Vegetable Products Due to Listeria Concerns

Dozens of nationally distributed prepped fresh vegetable products, from meal bowls to cole slaw to veggie trays, are being voluntarily recalled for possible listeria contamination by Mann Packing of Salinas, Calif.

People other than pregnant women: Symptoms can include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions in addition to fever and muscle aches. If you suspect that your product may be contaminated, you can check the Food and Drug Administration's full report, which has brand names, descriptions, and UPC codes.

Listeria infections can be fatal in the young, the elderly, anyone with damaged immune systems and can cause pregnancy miscarriages or stillbirths.

California-based Mann Packing says Listeria monocytogenes was found in one of their processed vegetable offerings.

The recalled products were distributed with "best if used by" dates from October 11 to October 20 listed on the front of the packaging.

Triple-B is recalling broccoli florets, stir fry kits, veggie trays with cauliflower and veggie pack combos that were sold in store delis in Alaska. A list of those recalled vegetable items can be found here.

About 1,600 people become infected with listeria each year, and about 260 die, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"As the owner of this company and as a mom, providing safe and healthy foods to our consumers and their families is always our top priority", said Gina Nucci, director of corporate marketing for Mann Packing.

If you have any of the above products, then the FDA advises that you either discard it immediately or return it to its point of purchase for a full refund. Giant Eagle and Heinen's are listed on the company's web site as some of the retailers that carry the Mann's brand, although it is not known if they received some of the recalled products.
